NOTE —

If your blog post's featured images are fairly low resolution, you may want to delete the top image canvas. Your blog will still look gorgeous, but the top banner section looks best when you upload an image that's 2500px on the long side. You can also use our fave TinyJpeg to make them small so your blog posts still load quickly!

An Outfit Guide on What to Wear for your Engagement Shoot

What to Wear for your Engagement Shoot

The outfits you choose play a pivotal role in conveying the desired vibe of your photo session. Find your perfect engagement photoshoot look in San Francisco with our guide, tailored for diverse landscapes and iconic backdrops that capture your unique love story. Consider the following tips to ensure your clothing enhances your desired vibe.

  • Wear clothes that match your vision.
    • Align your clothing choices with the envisioned mood of your photo session. For example, if you’re aiming for a golden sunset vibe in a field of wildflowers, opt for flowy materials and natural-toned colors that harmonize with the warm hues of the setting sun. On the flip side, if you know what you’re having your engagement photos at San Francisco City Hall and want an elegant look, opt for a flowy material that will glide as you walk up the City Hall steps.
  • Wear clothes and colors that complement your partner’s clothes.
    • Coordinate your outfits with your partner rather than going for identical looks (although if there is something you want to wear or bring to match, that can add a really fun and sentimental element to your session!) In general, choosing complementary colors and styles will help you look like a cohesive unit in nature or whatever setting you’re in.
  • Wear clothes that are comfortable.
    • Feeling comfortable in your chosen attire is important because it will allow you to feel your most confident self and allow you to fully enjoy the genuine and fun moments during your engagement session. This will also allow you to move freely, especially when you’re walking around during your session.
  • Consider the location when choosing your outfit.
    • If you’re posing against an urban backdrop, contemporary and chic attire may be suitable. In a natural setting, perhaps opt for earthy tones and attire that blends seamlessly with the surroundings.
  • If you choose to accessorize, have it complement the rest of your accessories and outfit.
    • Accessories can add a touch of personality to your photos. Consider incorporating items that hold sentimental value or speak to your relationship. Whether it’s a piece of jewelry with special significance or a hat that complements the setting, thoughtful accessories can enhance the overall aesthetic. I find that my clients find it helpful to choose their outfit first, then choose the accessories to help add that final touch to your outfit.
  • Consult with Your Photographer, especially if you’re not sure what to wear or where to start.
    • Before finalizing your outfits, consult with your photographer. They can provide valuable insights into what works well with their style and the chosen location. Their experience can guide you in making choices that will result in stunning, cohesive photographs.
